The Best Beaches of Both Coasts

Best Beaches on Both Coasts

Lady Lake offers the best of Florida in so many ways. The central location offers the peace and tranquility of a country setting, but is convenient to the best in education, the arts, healthcare, and recreation. Best of all, from your new home in Green Key Village, you have quick and easy access to world-class beaches on both coasts! Whether you want to take the family to the east coast for stunning beaches and fun-filled adventures, or you crave the serenity and beauty of unspoiled habitat on the west coast, there’s a beach within driving distance for every preference and mood. You’ll never run out of places to explore. Here are a few of our favorite beaches, coast-to-coast.

East Coast

Daytona Beach – 1 hr 40 min away

Whether you come for family spring break or NASCAR racing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at one of Florida’s most well-known beach destinations. The grandkids will love building castles along the 23 miles of sandy beaches, or going on rides and playing games at any of the amusements parks and attractions. The Daytona Beach Pier is perfect for family-style dining, fishing, or just strolling and enjoying the sea breeze.

New Smyrna Beach – 1 hr 40 min away

When the grandkids are back with their parents, and you’re ready for a new – slightly calmer – adventure, New Smyrna Beach is just a few miles south of Daytona Beach but a world away. This charming beach town is known for its local culture, food, and art scene, as well as its pristine sand. It’s also a big hit with surfers, who are fun to watch from the shoreline. If you want in on the action, local shops rent special boards for beginners and provide lessons with experienced surfers.

Cape Canaveral – 1 hr 50 min away

This is another awesome area to visit, whether you are with the entire family or just looking for an interesting day trip. Cape Canaveral is home to the Kennedy Space Center, which houses a variety of interactive learning exhibits in its Visitor Complex. Planet Play, Astronaut Training Experience, and Race to the Moon will amaze and delight both kids and adults. After a day of spacing out, head over to Canaveral National Seashore to continue the learning – there are 24 miles of undeveloped beach with hundreds of native bird and plant species.

West Coast

Pine Island – 1 hr 30 min away

This barrier island on the Gulf of Mexico is an ideal place to spend a leisurely day at the beach with the entire family. The water is so shallow that you can wade out for quite a ways, sometimes even to nearby islands – perfect for impressing the grandkids! At the beach there’s a concession stand, restrooms, picnic tables, grills, and a volleyball court. The adjacent salty marshland is an estuary that’s ideal for spotting local birds, fish and crabs.

Bayport – 1 hr 30 min away

Just south of Pine Island, Bayport offers the same quiet, untouched, natural Florida habitat. There are scenic coastal hiking trails with picnic shelters and boardwalks, paddling trails through the estuary for peaceful canoeing adventures, and quiet piers for fishing or just catching the warm Gulf breeze.

Hernando Beach –  1 hr 30 min away

When you’re ready for an ever so slight change of pace, head over to Hernando Beach, where there are plenty of dining choices, including some “You Hook It, We Cook It” restaurants where you can relax and let a professional chef prepare your day’s catch. A true boating community, here you can dock your own vessel at one of the many marinas, or rent a pontoon for the day to go fishing, scalloping, or cruising on the waterways.

From your new home in Green Key Village, you have access to the best beaches in the state, any time you want. Pack a picnic lunch, put on your bathing suit, and throw your fishing gear in the trunk because your beach adventures will know no bounds!
